Trials & Tribulations of Sustainable Event organising

volunteering for Eco Challenge

Organising any event has it’s trials & tribulations but this year’s Surfrider Foundation Eco Challenge Gold Coast event was a doozy 🙂

Luckily we had a professional event organiser arrive on our doorstep from an intense schedule in New Zealand working on various festivals who jumped in voluntarily to assist and mentor us with many systems that were before unthinkable because they seemed like a luxury that time just did not allow.

If you missed the event here’s a quick catch up courtesy of Izzy Hobbs Photography & Film

We had a wild week of weather prior to the event courtesy of cyclone Debbie and every man & his dog were telling us to either postpone or cancel but we had visualised a perfect day….and it was, blue skies, a bit of cloud, just enough offshore wind and perfect surf. But the aftermath of a category two cyclone, flooding and 260Km winds took it’s toll. We lost our main source of power, the Southern Cross Universities Sunflower, solar powered music stage which never left Lismore. So we scrambled to energise our musicians and jumping castle, thanks to Joshy Dredz & Johan Danno, two of our wonderful entertainment lineup and Darren Crawford who donated their all.

What we lost on the lead up to the event we gained on the day, which you’ll see by the list of wonderful people & companies that came and gave their time & efforts for the support of Surfrider Foundation and the community.

our gracious thanks go out to:
